Growing food & growing farmers is what we’re all about at HIP! As a part of this mission, we want to provide the communities of Hawai’i with access to free education. Join us for an ongoing series of hands-on workshops and demonstrations facilitated by our staff, local agricultural specialists, and experts in the field. Programs may include cultivation & planting demonstrations, farming techniques, farm field trips, classroom instruction and community planting days. Diversified Farm Design Course - Pt 1
Join us for a 2-part Diversified Farm Design Course on May 9 and May 23 from 8 AM to 5 PM at Starseed Ranch in North Kohala. Taught by Zach Mermel of Ola Design Group, this hands-on course will guide participants through designing resilient, diversified farms using agro-ecological principles. Learn how to assess your site, clarify your goals, develop a personalized farm design, and create a phased implementation plan. Through interactive exercises and real-world examples, participants will gain practical, place-based skills to support productive, adaptable farm systems. Limited to 12 participants. Cost is $250, with free enrollment available for eligible participants through our USDA 2501 Farmer Training Program, including veteran farmers and those from historically underserved communities.
